The Guide to Sloped Roofs, what is the cause of their rapid destruction? Is it the "Sun hitting the roofs" or the "accumulated heat" in the Attic?

The Guide for the Construction, Maintenance, Repairs modification of Sloped Roofs and "WHAT Happens" when there is a lack of attic vents.

In this section, we will choose the kind and materials for sloped roofs.

The advantages and disadvantages of shingled roofs.

The different kind of shingles will be described.

The advantage and disadvantage of each kind will be described.

"Numerous photos will also be posted.

---------------------------------------------------

Because of all the numerous questions, a section has been added: The principals hidden behind the ventilation of attics and how it functions.

Go and see the: " Attic Vents Function" section and the principles implied applicable to all roofs, Flat or Sloped Roofs.

Also: "Kind of Attic Vents" where the different kinds of attic vents are described.

---------------------------------------------------

There is so much to be said also about "Sloped Roofs", their reliability and why do the shingles break/deforms/curl/shrink/bubble and tear away so fast?

All this can be corrected very fast!

YES! To so many questions; in the meantime, this can be said about tiled Sloped Roofs:

A - Even if the most expensive roof tiles may be purchased! They will not last more than 15 to 18 years if the ATTIC is "Not Vented" by "Attic Vents" even if the SHINGLES are GUARANTEED for 30 years.

Back soon.

We are back!

B - If a less expensive shingle is purchased, we are not talking necessary of what people could describe as cheep; a shingle is a shingle and most shingle would do the Job at the condition that .............. Yes! Now you know what?

C - A less expensive shingle will last much longer than and expensive one at the EXPRESS Condition that the accumulated heat of 60 degrees centigrade or 145 degrees Fahrenheit in the attic be evacuated. This heat need to be vented out of the attic by proper air inlets at the soffits and proper air outlets at the ridge of your sloped roof home or building such condominium apartments.

D - Still do buy good quality products from reliable well known suppliers. This is important in hot climate zones.

E - You have been patient enough to read up to here! So here is a secret addressed particularly to you.

F - Secret to some, known to those who have paid the price of the error.

G - The 1st SECRET: Never lay a new roof on old shingles even if the installer mentions that more thickness is better and even if he gives you a discount.

Why?

It is less costly to him to erect a new roof on the old shingles than to take off the old shingles, repair the wood, plywood or agglomerated press-wood roof structure and the cost of finding and delivering to a dump this rubbished roof.

Why?

What is more important for the reliability of the work performed?

H - Principle of nature: A proper roof has 2 to 3 thickness of shingles dependent of the slope of the roof and the kind of shingles used.

I - Adding a new roof on an old roof makes a SANDWICH of shingles of six to eight layers. In this particular thick assembly, if you put a thermometer in the middle of the sandwich you will be astounded at the very high temperature developed in the shingles mainly on a hot sunny day.

J - Yes, no more secret, you understand that this heat could and most properly will melt the shingles in less than 5 to 10 years mainly if "the attic" of your sloped roofs building is not "properly vented".

Why mention this? It has been found through 25 years of inspection that it is the case for about 1% of homes in some areas.
